Masserano (BI) Italy

On Christmas Eve 1996, an explosion occurred in the vicinity of the Masserano wastefill site causing a fatality.

The explosion was a direct outcome of biogas migration from the plant and brought to the forefront the complexities inherent in biogas captation in the context of plant remediation.

We undertook the immediate risk analysis and, subsequent to the incident, to solve the problems deriving from the design of the captation plant, remediation, monitoring and energy recovery of the gas produced from the landfill.

Of exceptional note was the plan for an Extraction station capable of handling, independantly but concurrently, all of 3 different types of biogas according to their chemical composition, provenance and end-use.
